2025 Olive Harvest Newsletter
The summer of 2025 has been the coolest in memory. The cool and often foggy weather has us hoping that the olives will ripen by November 1 when we kick off our curing classes and Upicks. This year’s crop is a good one. At this time the olives are ripening and just starting to turn colors.
Olive Curing Classes
Our popular olive curing classes will begin Saturday, November 1and be held the next three Saturdays 9:30 to 11am on November 2, 9 and the 22nd. These include a pound of olives and a one quart jar for curing. Early signups at our online store are strongly recommend as these classes usually do sellout. Cost is $40 per person.
Olive Upicks for curing olives
Upicks will commence on November 1 and end on November 30. (We will adjust if necessary for olives to ripen). To reserve please purchase the amount of olives you anticipate picking at our online store and then you will be contacted to set up a time between 8am and 2 pm to pick. A scale and self serve table will be waiting for you. If coming to pick for the first time then schedule your Upick one of the Saturdays when curing classes are held 9-11am. If all goes according to plan we will harvest for oil in mid to late December.
Olio Nuovo
Once again we will be accepting pre harvest reservations for our 2025 freshly milled olive oil. This year we will be changing over to using tinted half gallon glass jugs. Two of these (1 gallon) will be on sale for $135 and can be reserved at our online store. Pick up for these will be announced once we have a sense of when the harvest will happen. You can reserve yours at our online store.
I look forward to seeing our Upick and Olio Nuovo regulars this fall season.
Best to all of you,
Roger Wolfe
Welcome to Dos Aguilas Olive Oil. We are an estate grown olive grove located in beautiful Santa Cruz County. We grow five Tuscan varietals; Leccino, Maurino, Moraiolo, Frantoio and Pendolino. Each are added to our blend. In March of 2016 we were awarded the Gold Medal for Central Coast Blends at the world's biggest olive oil competition; the Los Angeles Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. In 2014 we were awarded the gold medal/Best in Class for Medium Tuscan Blends for North Coast Blends of California. Award points are based on blind tasting by a panel of trained sensory evaluators.
The first of our olive trees were planted in 1999 and with subsequent plantings we currently have about 1000 trees growing in the temperate Pleasant Valley in Aptos/Corralitos. The climate in Santa Cruz county is unique in that the cool, foggy summers create an olive oil that is not as robust or pungent as the Tuscan olive oils grown in hotter climates.
Our oil is available at Sunnyside Produce in Soquel, Glaum Egg Ranch in Aptos and Freedom Meat Lockers in Watsonville and Capitola Produce.
